I learned (again) a little trick in Photoshop the other day that I remember learning back when I took my Photoshop class. The baseball was a little dark so I selected just the baseball and added a Curves Layer to lighten it up a bit. I debated lightening it up a little more but I'm still trying to find that exact point (you know that point before you've gone too far). I also used my fancy new Nik Silver Efex Pro2 plugin that I got for my 25th birthday (ok...add few years to that lol!) I also remembered how to add a border! Yay me! I've been really thinking about the things that I had learned in my Photoshop class this past semester and the fact that I need to continue learning even more. Hopefully, I can take Advanced Photoshop the next Spring Semester....I will be ready (I hope)!

Flash Bang Boom!
My friend Kate was good sport and agreed to model for our Commercial portraiture class assignment using dare I say it???...The FLASH! (insert groans here) I used to think that you slapped that flash onto your camera, turned it on and that was it. Yeah right! Did you know that there are guide numbers and that guide number given isn't necessarily the one right one? Ugh...so confusing...
**Update: I am learning more about how to use flash but I still am not always sure what to do but at least it's forward progress!

Adventures in Photoshop
I took this picture of my daughter T for my Commercial Portraiture class. The assignment was lighting patterns and this is my "Rembrandt" (triangle of light on the cheek) taken from the broad side. I didn't turn in this exact photo, I ended up playing with the filters in Photoshop and having way too much fun!

Baseball Opening Day 2011
First game of the 2011 season. Best buddies H & H were ready to play! Hopefully, later this week I can run the all the pictures through Photoshop. It's just not happening today!

Senior Pictures
The first picture is of my daughter (Class of 2011) and the second one is of my cute dad (Class of 1812...Just kidding!) taken 48 years apart. I have always known how much I look like my mom but I can definitely see just how much I resemble my dad. I scanned my dad's picture into Photoshop. Unfortunately, my scanner refused to scan at a higher resolution so it's probably grainier than it should have been. Parts of the picture were faded and I had to go in and build back up the color. I can see where I did an awesome job and where I should've had my eyes checked! Oh well, practice make perfect right?

Lego Me
My son has two favorite things in his life...his sister and his Legos. What could be better than if you could combine the two?

If My Life Could Be Told In A Photograph
A complete and total blur....Actually, I took this picture of my daughter while I was learning how to pan. It took a little while to get her somewhat in focus (definitely not with this picture) while totally blurring out the background. I think this picture sums up my day. Always running from one thing to the next with no rest in between!
Take Me Out To The Ballgame
It's that time of year again. My son and his best buddy H are getting ready to play their first game of the 2011 season. I'm hoping that I've improved on my photography skills since then. These pictures were from a Photo 5 project(s) from my first semester of photography classes. I can't believe how much the boys have changed since last year. I'm hoping I've

Feeling A Little Disconnected
I took this picture as part of an assignment for my Photo 5 class. We had to find something that met this criteria: (Juxtaposition of Odd) An eye-catching way of grabbing your viewer and making them think twice about what they are looking at. A scene that is not normal; with objects that are juxtaposed oddly. I wished this picture wasn't so "busy" and I had more time to set it up but it was feeding time for the giraffes and I had to move quickly. I think when the weather warms up I might try it again. Hopefully by now, I've learned a little more and can get a perfect shot.
Light & Contrast-Field Assignment
Project 3 in my Photo 10 class was a field assignment that had us experimenting with light and contrast and how it affected the tonality range within the negative. I used my Pentax K1000 film camera for this assignment since Photo 10 was a film class. I started out about 6:30 in the morning and took a picture. I went back again sometime between 9-11am, 1-3pm, 4:30-6pm, and the final shot of the day was around 5:30pm. It was cold and it was wet. I hated every minute of it but I do like how these shots turned out considering this was SOOC (straight out of the camera).
Meet Chuck
Meet my dear friend Chuck. Chuck is a Chucker Pheasant and he resides in Sacramento, CA in front of the hotel we stayed at for my daughter's soccer tournament several months ago. Hotel staff said he arrived one day and never left. He just hangs out front and greets hotel guests as they enter. He gets fed twice a day and has a pretty easy life. Every time we saw him we couldn't help but laugh. Chuck is the roundest bird I had ever seen! I decided to look up exactly what kind of bird Chuck was and put in "fat, rotund bird." The first entry I got was a Chucker Pheasant. I used old Chuck's photo for one of my Photo 6 projects which had to do with action shots hence the soccer tournament. Ironically, Chuck looks a lot like a soccer ball and I don't think he sees much action (I mean exercise....not what you may be thinking!). I wished I had changed the light setting on my camera but I was afraid he'd take off before I had the chance. I'm not a big fan of birds but I'll make an exception for this one. I could have never taken him home though, our cat is rather fond of birds and he would definitely think that he had won the lottery with ole Chuckster!
