Rock A Bye Baby

Meet Baby. She is the "other woman" in my husband's life and she is also the model for my Project 4 assignment in my Photo 6 class. We had to over/underexpose our shots by one stop each. This shot was underexposed by one stop and I haven't attempted to Photoshop it but I loved how my front yard is softly blurred in the background and my car isn't showing all the cat prints. Apparently black cars are the best for sunning one's self and my children's cats take full advantage.

Say Hello To My Little Friend

This is my best friend from Studio B. I don't remember her name but we have spent many, long hours together. Most of them were spent with me wanting to throw my camera up against the wall. I knew when I signed up for the Commercial Portraiture class it would be tough. Well, I was right! I now have nightmares about lighting patterns and ratios. I have even found myself watching a movie and noticing that the actor has a butterfly lighting pattern under their nose or possibly even an open loop. It's a good thing that I know what those are and can actually replicate them but this ratio business is going to make me look like my new friend....bald...from pulling my hair out!

How Many People Does It Take To Block A Shot?

For an assignment in my Photo 6 class we had to take pictures of things that we loved or were interested in. Well, I love soccer....a lot. We were up in the Sacramento area for M's club team and as we walked to our assigned field I noticed all these people lined up in front of the goal! It struck me really funny and that shot earned me a big ole 'A' for that project!

Photoshop Selections

Attempting to do selections in Photoshop can be a tough thing to do. I am VERY left-handed and using a mouse with my right hand to select things like hair makes me a little crazy. I really need to win the lottery (that I don't play) soon so I can buy a Wacom tablet. In my Photoshop class there were lessons that I could work on at home. I had paused the lesson part way through and noticed that the girl's hair seemed to continue on pass the lesson screen and onto the rest of my monitor!

Help On A Project

For part of my Photo 5 class assignment we had to take a self portrait. There's nothing I love less than taking my own picture. I set everything up and as I took the picture, the cats thought they would get in on the action. I have to admit they are much more photogenic than I am! I did eventually get a picture that I could use but I like this one better.

First Day of School

I took this picture for my Photo 7 class. We had to take a portrait using window light or light from an open doorway. I didn't end up using this picture for that project but I did use it for my first printing project in my Photoshop class.

G.I. Joe

My Photo 5 class had an assignment that included emphasis. Emphasis forces the viewer's eyes directly to the main object in the frame...no matter how complex or distracting the other objects are in the photograph.

Gone Fishin'

My son and his friend love going to the park. They can easily spends hours and hours there finding "treasures" along the way. I started to edit the picture of my son holding his homemade fishing pole and noticed how the fishing pole resembled a cross and he looks so serious. Strange...

Baseball 2010

Baseball is something that my son looks forward to every year. It so happened that this last season I was assigned a project in my Photo 5 class. The project had to be a photo story. I had to pick a theme and show different aspects of that theme. I chose baseball of course, and these are some (I took a lot) of the pictures from that project. I started out with my son putting his cleats on, warming up by playing catch with his best buddy H, and various shots from his games. I also took him to see the local semi-pro team here in town to finish off my project.

Tower District FieldTrip

My Photo 5 professor takes her class every semester down to the Tower District in the evening to try our hand at night photography. We were able to take pictures of people on the streets, traffic, inside a few of the local shops, and even a few light tracings. These are a few of the pictures from that field trip.
